"Chair, changemaker, and cultural architect, Wendy Ashley blends unapologetic antiracism with clinical precision and academic brilliance. Whether authoring books on antiracist social work practice or biracial identity, restructuring social work curricula, holding faculty to the highest standard of ethics and collegiality, or providing intersectional, culturally responsive treatment services, she brings fire and finesse to every space she enters. A master of policy, pedagogy, and cultural nuance, Wendy leads with both heart and hustle — and makes sure the next generation of social workers is ready to rise, resist, and rebuild."

My Approach

I have over 30 years of experience as a therapist. My education includes a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Social Work (MSW), and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.). I have been a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) since 1998 (LCS 19001).

My therapeutic approach is a little like driving school. Remember driving school? We are both in the car; you are behind the wheel, and I am right next to you. While you control the direction we go in, I have access to a brake. What that means is that you direct the work, but I coach, give feedback, help you slow down and support your learning. I bear witness to the adversities you face, and I help you respond (not react) differently the next time.  Although it is a metaphor, it is a powerful illustration of what therapy is like. More than anything, it is a relationship where I support you in making the best choices for the trajectory of your life.

Services

Would you like to improve your relationships with your significant other, family, children or colleagues? Are you exhausted trying to maintain daily activities? Struggling with anxiety, depression, sleep problems, feeling irritable or unhappy? Many of us didn't get the attention, empathy and support we needed in our formative years, which often results in emotional wounds we carry as adults. Perhaps seeking therapy is not your first choice in resolving the problem(s), seems to be an extravagant expense or is culturally in-congruent. However, since we are often wounded in our primary family relationships, it is through relationships that we heal.

I help clients manage trauma, heal their wounds and empower them to develop and maintain healthy, happy relationships. Call me and we can decide together if this relationship is a good fit to begin the journey toward healing, happiness and a sense of peace.

I provide the following services:

  • Psychotherapy (individuals, couples and families)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT)
  • Culturally relevant, anti-oppressive intervention
  • Training
  • Consultation
